How to Get Butter Stains Out of a Carpet

[ad_1]

If you’ve ever dripped butter on your rug or carpet you have no doubt wondered how to get butter stains out of carpet. Of course, it is best not to spill it in the first place but life happens, and when those stains appear here are steps to remove them quickly and effectively.

First, act as quickly as possible once the butter gets onto the carpet, because the quicker you act the easier it will be to remove. As soon as the butter gets there scrape up as much of the butter as possible, and blot up as much melted butter as you can from the area.

Second, you want to absorb as much of the grease and oil from the butter as possible. The best way to do this is by using an absorbent, such as cornstarch or baking soda, and sprinkling it over the stain to soak up grease. Let the absorbent sit and do its job for at least fifteen minutes, and then vacuum up the powder, which has now absorbed a great deal of the butter grease.

Now, you are left with a greasy stained area on your carpet. To remove this stained area you can mix a solution of 2 cups of water and one tablespoon of dishwashing liquid, and blot this solution onto the carpet. Dishwashing liquid, which cuts grease from your dishes, will do the same for your carpet.

After as much of the greasy stain has been removed with the dishwashing solution as possible you need to rinse the carpet with cool water to make sure you remove as much of the dishwashing liquid as possible. This is because the dishwashing liquid will attract dirt to the area otherwise making that spot on the carpet look dirtier than it otherwise should. Be sure to get the carpet only as wet as necessary to clean up the butter stains, and then remove the dishwashing solution, Then, you will need to dry the carpet thoroughly to ensure no mold or mildew develops.

If the greasy stain persists even after using the dishwashing liquid solution you can also treat the butter stain on the carpet with dry cleaning solution to help rid yourself of the stain. Use the dry cleaning solvent sparingly, blotting it onto the stained part of the carpet until the stain is removed. Be careful to first test the solvent in an inconspicuous area of the carpet to make sure it will not harm or discolor your carpet before you use it on the stain.
