Engineering Flooring Installation

Interested in doing hardwood flooring but worried about how it will resist time, including exposure to moisture and heat? That is a good question, and one that is addressed by engineering flooring installation. Normally there are two general options you have when it comes to the category of hardwood you choose for your home: Solid hardwoods and engineered hardwoods. Both offer that brilliant look to your floors, but are built differently. Solid hardwood, as you can probably imagine is taken straight from the tree trunk. It is made from a single piece of wood, which is normally about ¾ inches thick. Engineered floors have taken solid woods, and optimized their dimensions to address some of the disadvantages that solid hardwood flooring has.

Choose Engineering Flooring Installation

When you first hear about flooring that is engineered, you probably automatically think that it is not truly made out of the wood that it is advertised to be. However, that is far from the truth. This type of flooring is made out of genuine wood, but is engineered to be versatile and able to be used in almost every room of your house, condo, or apartment. Engineered hardwood is something that is easier to install, and normally the less expensive option. Since it is easier to install, the labor costs can be reduced. There are less things to worry about when it comes to installing engineered flooring including no potential for swelling over time. This means that no additional considerations need to be made about how much space needs to be left between the floor and the adjacent walls.

However, quality and durability also come from the type of wood you end up purchasing. You can elect to get a stronger type of wood such as white oak, or something that is not as tough, but offers more interesting color qualities such as cherry. For the most part, you just need to make sure that the grade of the hardness can withstand things like moisture, heat, and pressure over time and then you can get creative afterwards. Hardwood species do represent about 40% of all trees in North America after all so you will not be hard pressed to find them.

Make sure you know your general options for hardwood flooring. Solid hardwood has been around for some time, but engineered hardwood has some added benefits while retaining the natural look of the hardwoods. So keep your options open.
