Bahama Shutters – Tips Before You Buy

[ad_1]

Bahama shutters can be fairly inexpensive if you know what you’re looking for and where to get them. Don’t just go to your local hardware store and buy the first set that you see. This is a huge mistake. With the internet so easily accessible these days it is very easy to compare pricing from many different manufacturers before you make your decision.

First off you need to figure out which type of Bahama shutters you want on your home. They come in aluminum, vinyl and wood. The type of shutter you buy is going to depend on where you live and what reason you want them.

If you live in hurricane alley you need to be looking at the aluminum shutters. This is going to be the strongest shutter that you can buy and will hold up against the hurricane strength storms that you get. When you are shopping around you need to compare a few things very closely. The first is going to be the storm rating. If an aluminum shutter is not storm rated than you don’t even want to waste your time with it. It means that it is cheaply made and won’t stand up to much wind. The next choice you want to look at is sizing. Some manufacturers only offer a few standard sizes while others offer custom made. If your house has the standard size windows on your home than by all means buy from that manufacturer. If you don’t have standard sized windows than you will need to have yours custom made. Having your Bahama shutters custom made is a good thing. Custom made shutters have to pass many more quality control checks than pre-fabricated shutters do. Even though you are paying a little higher price you are also getting a higher quality shutter.

If you live on the outskirts of hurricane alley than you will be able to get the vinyl shutters. These shutters are still very strong but they are also more aesthetically pleasing. You will be able to get them in a many more colors than the aluminum ones and they are generally a little less expensive.

The last type of shutter is going to be the wooden shutters. These shutters are not designed to withstand a very heavy storm at all. If you’re buying these you are buying them more for looks and not for withstanding 100 mph winds. The benefit of wooden shutters is all the options that you get with them. You get your choice between colors or natural wood grain finish and having these custom made is almost the same price as buying them pre-fabricated.

One last tip that I will leave you with is how to save a few extra bucks on these. The best way to save money on bahama shutters is to install them yourself. Installation is very easy and won’t take much time or experience. The only thing you want to make sure of before installing it yourself is that it does not void the warranty by doing so. Most manufacturers allow you to install yourself while keeping the warranty intact.
